About

The St. Michael’s Hospital was established and commissioned as a Health Centre on 22nd November, 1958. Upgraded to a Hospital Status in the year 1960 to serve the Bosomtwe District.

Dr James Vervoon established St Michael’s clinic in 1958, to take care of the health of the people in the hospital’s catchment area, and later in 1960, it was upgraded to a hospital status to serve the inhabitants of Bosomtwe and its environs.

Pramso is located twelve kilometers from Kumasi, the regional capital of the Ashanti Region. It shares boundary with other districts such as Bosome-Freho, Bekwai Municipal, Kumasi Metropolis and Ejisu- Juaben municipality. The main ethnic group in the Bosomtwe District is Ashanti with other minority ethnic groups from different places.

Besides the District, it is blessed with major educational institutions like Kessben and St Margaret University colleges, St Michael’s midwifery training school with four second cycle institutions and numerous basic school facilities. Economically, farming and trading are the main occupation of the people.

The St Michael’s Hospital has operated over the years on principles that sought to project and promote the healing ministry of Christ for the sick through strict adherence to ethics formulated for healthcare delivery by the National Catholic Health Secretariat (NCHS), an affiliate of CHAG, which oversees the activities of all catholic health facilities in Ghana
